The Malthouse Project Open Day

For one day only, the local community in Bury St Edmunds have the opportunity to look around a 17 th Century restoration project, The Malthouse. On Sunday 10 th December 2006, The Malthouse in Elsey's Yard, just off Risbygate Street is opening its doors from 10.30am – 3.30pm for pre-booked 40-minute tours of the site.

The tours are free but donations are welcomed. All funds would go towards the work of St Matthew Housing (SMH), the charity behind the restoration project of the Malthouse.

SMH provides housing and support for the homeless or unsuitably housed people across East Anglia and the East Midlands . The charity works in a way that enables people to achieve their individual goals, at their own pace and in their own communities.

The Malthouse Project, when complete will become an important landmark for St Matthew Housing and the town, providing Bury St Edmunds with an important training and support facility for local people in need. St Matthew Housing residents and service users will work and train in a café, which will be open to the public to enjoy. The project also includes a Heritage Centre which will become a valuable addition to the Town Heritage Trail.

If you would like to have a tour of the Malthouse, please contact the Tourist Information Centre, 6 Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk or telephone 01284 764667 to book your place.

If you would like to find out more information about the Malthouse Project or are interested in volunteering, please contact Allan Scott-Davies , Heritage Centre Project Manager on tel: 01284 732573.
